About the Exhibition
Hyundai Motor and Rhizome of the New Museum announced the launch of World on a Wire, a global exhibition in Beijing and online, worldonawire.net. World on a Wire represents the first collaboration of the partnership between Hyundai Motor and Rhizome with the shared vision to create platforms for innovative, emergent digital art practices. The exhibition featured 11 works, of which 7 were commissions, by global artists who have expressed themselves through a variety of digital mediums. Their works explore the possibilities and poetics of simulation as an artistic practice. The inaugural edition of World on a Wire featured curatorial and program contributions of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
World on a Wire in Beijing presented works by Mariia Fedorova, LU Fei & LEI Jianhao, JooYoung Oh, Sascha Pohflepp & Matthew Lutz & Alessia Nigretti, Pete Jiadong Qiang, Tabor Robak, Rachel Rossin,Timur Si-Qin, Theo Triantafyllidis, YE Nan, and ZZYW (Zhenzhen Qi & Yang Wang).
About the Program
Rhizome Partnership
In 2021, Hyundai Motor and Rhizome partnered to explore the infinite possibilities arising from the convergence of art and technology. Established in 1996, Rhizome champions born-digital art and culture through commissions, exhibitions, scholarship, and digital preservation. Since 2003, Rhizome has been an affiliate in residence at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, playing an integral role in the history of contemporary art engaged with digital technologies and the internet. To date, the partnership resulted in World on a Wire, a digital and physical exhibition exploring blurring lines between the virtual and the real, and continued with 7x7 2024, a legendary art and tech program.
