Eligibility & FAQs - 2026 Artlab Editorial Fellowship

The Artlab Editorial Fellowship is a global open call; all writers who meet the eligibility requirements listed below may apply.


Eligibility

  • Must be an individual submitting on their own behalf
  • Must be able to write proficiently in English
  • Must be a published author with (3) pieces of publicly published and credited work in English
  • Must be engaged with and intend to write about contemporary visual art
  • Must include contact info for 1-2 professional references
  • Must be able to access the internet for the duration of the Fellowship (May–December 2026)
  • Must be able to attend all Fellowship meetings with Editors and Advisors
  • Must be able to complete (3) Fellowship articles before the end of 2026

Non-Eligibility

  • Applying on behalf of an organization, company, institution, museum, or publication
  • An artist, writer, or curator writing an interpretive essay on their own practice

When will the application period open?

The application period will open on 10:00 AM ET, Tuesday, February 10, 2026. All submissions must be submitted by 11:59 PM ET, Monday, March 9, 2026. No late submissions will be accepted.


What kind of applicant are you looking for?

We are looking for writers from anywhere in the world and at any career stage who navigate the balance between care and critique, the interrogative and intuitive, the perceptive and imaginative, and engage through dialogue to deepen understanding.


Do applicants need to be a citizen of a specific country?

The Artlab Editorial Fellowship is open to and encourages all nationalities.


Is there an age requirement to submit?

Applicants must be 18 years or older.


How many times can I apply?

Applicants are allowed (1) submission only. If multiple applications from a single applicant are received, only the first submission will be considered.


What is expected of the five finalists before the Fellows are announced?

Finalists will be contacted in April after careful review of their Fellowship application by the Fellowship committee. Upon selection, finalists will be emailed and expected to complete a creative writing prompt with one week lead time as well as participate in a virtual interview with the Artlab Editor prior to the announcement of the chosen Fellows.


What are the publishing requirements?

Fellows are obligated to complete (3) articles for Artlab Editorial by December 31, 2026.


What if I am unable to complete the (3) required articles in 2026 for the Artlab Editorial Fellowship?

Failure to meet the Fellowship requirements may result in the forfeiture of the Fellowship.


Who reviews my entry submission?

Entry submissions will be reviewed by the 2026 Fellowship Advisors and the Hyundai Artlab and Artlab Editorial team.


When will the Artlab Editorial Fellowship recipients be announced?

The Fellowship recipients will be announced by May 2026.


If my proposal is not accepted, will I find out why?

Due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to share with you the reason your proposal was not selected.
